Deathly Hollows

I totally loved it, despite the fact that it was kind of on a little bit of crack. Haha.

1. Snape, I love you. Seriously. The whole time I was reading the book, I was hoping everything about him being good, Dumbledore telling him he needed to kill him, etc, was true, and it was and yay. His memories were sad, though. I mean, people in fandom have been saying Snape lurved Lily for years, but his obsession, and friendship, and love for her were rather sad. She was probably his only real friend, poor bloke. I could go on for days. I love Snape because I am way biased. =P

2. I didn't like how Ron mimicked Harry and used Parseltongue. I just don't think it would actually be possible. Hannah, Emily, and I were talking, and it doesn't seem like one of those languages you can learn, you just know it, or else more people would know it (it would be a great language for dark wizards and such to use). It's a fantasy book, so all the stuff about snake noises and human noises being totally different, making it damn near impossible for Ron to actually imitate Harry accurately, can probably be ignored. But still. Didn't like it.

3. Oooh Sirius, how could they take you like thiiiiiiiiiiiis? Haha. That has nothing to do with anything. Anywhore, I loved the scene with Lily, James, Sirius, Remus, and Harry. It was beautiful, them all being together, even though it wasn't for long, and all but Harry were dead. I just really liked it.

4. MOLLY TOTALLY PWNED BELLATRIX! With her "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" and then BAM, Bellatrix is DEAD. The scene was just great, even though I've been hoping Neville would have been the one to finish her off. He got Nagini good, though. Because he just rocks like that.

5. AS/S. Haha. And ASP. I actually noticed that first. Oi. I was all, "Albus Severus Potter... ASP... lol a snake." Scorpius is a ridiculous name, though. Draco and his lady wife must be on the drugs, I think. Haha.

There were a lot of other things I liked/didn't like (there are more likes), buuuuuut, I got sick of making a list. Haha. Open discussion, people! Oh, and if anyone else made a post about their take on Deathly Hollows, link me, and I'll read it. Haven't read my flist in awhile, and I don't want to miss anything. =)

I didn't like how everyone's ending ended with OMG SO MANY KIDSSSSS because no, children aren't everyone's happy ending. AND URGH. FRED! We got more remorse for Dobby's death then we did for FRED'S. >.

I suppose it was because there was more time for remorse in Dobby's case, seeing as they weren't in the middle of a plot-deciding battle when he was killed.

Chilluns arent everyone's happy ending, no.
But they are if you're a Weasley ;]
and if you're in a kids book, yaknow.

I really need to get more HP-related icons, this is the only one I have right now.

Anyway, yeah. Dobby's death had time to be mourned, Fred's didn't. We had Percy going off after the guy who killed him, though, and that was a pretty powerful scene, especially since Percy has been so distant from his family in all these books. It really showed that he really does care about them, no matter what he's been doing that seems to contradict that. And we got that little scene with Molly sobbing and the whole family around Fred's body-- that just wasn't the main focus at that point in the book, though, so we didn't get an in-depth look at the mourning that was obviously going on.

I know, and the epilogue was just focused on the omgchillins. I kind of wanted to see more of the aftermath of the battle-- the clean up and such, and get a little more info on what characters other than Harry, Ron, and Hermione were up to. But oh well. The book was really good, the epilogue was just somewhat lacking and not my cup of tea.

It's because Dobby was a pure innocent. He didn't go into battle knowing he could die. He only wanted to help Harry. Also, as the below comment said- Fred died in the middle of battle. There wasn't time for gratuitous anguish. Same with Remus and Tonks.

Also children aren't my idea of a happy ending (don't want them), but they're a happy ending for these characters and that's all that matters. Because it's happy for them, I'm happy.

More importantly the series is in a huge part about love for family. It's what saved so many characters. And it's only appropriate that the flash forward with the characters involves that and those characters passing on that love to their own.

Nicely put, that love for family, and parents for children, being a core of the novels. That theme reprises in the nineteen years later very well.

Still, the way she killed people off in passing and left various things hanging (Harry is a kid's godfather, but the kid lives where? that he comes to visit four days a week ...) ... sigh ... it was almost as if she was trying to block fanfics or pressure to write any more in the same setting.

Ah well, it was a good ride and a solid last book -- it doesn't ruin the movies or the other stories. Sad that everyone in James & Lily's circle died, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Also sharp that Voldy did not realize that he was facing a final death at the last duel, that he didn't know all of his souls had been freed except the one in his body, and that Harry didn't try to use that to soften him up.

Yeah, exactly. I mean even Narcissa's love for her son in a sense saved Harry. Wow.

I thought the kid lived with Andromeda? When Tonks arrives at Hogwarts she mentions the kid will be safe with her, and even seems to imply for a longer period of time in case she (Tonks) and Lupin die. Neville grew up with his grandma, so it's not something we haven't seen in the HP-verse. ^^

Oh I dunno about the killing people in passing. One thing to remember is that the books are from Harry's perspective. If he didn't see it happen, we don't know how/why it happened (unless it's explained). There are only two or three exceptions to this- all scenes which involve the Death Eaters (i.e. Spinner's end) and one other- Harry being dropped off at Privet Drive as a baby. Some of those Harry actually did see via his mind connection to Moldy Voldy. Lots of people were inevitably going to die, so it makes sense that Harry didn't see them all. I think Lupin and Tonks in specific were meant to elicit kind of a hollow shock, which really set him forward on his mission.

I LOVED how Harry kept calling him Tom. That was AWESOMESAUCE.

at the time of the epilogue, Teddy was of age (he would be 19-ish), so he would probably have been out on his own by then, my guess is he lived with Andromeda while he was in school (and maybe still does)
