PART 2

Basically, I think that you're really great at knowing when to show and not tell. And you're also really great at knowing how to tell a story by omission--when the things left unsaid will hit harder than anything you actually include in the fic. And that's what the way this story is told is all about, and what makes it so wonderful. And so I love it. <3

And even in the pneumonia part, with the climax and the reveal and everything--it's still perfect, just the right amount, nothing too much. There is no "here is Spain bawling and here are all of his feels." There's just--just--like that holy crap ending line to one of the sections:
He leaves and Spain has to excuse himself as well, before the itch in his throat turns into anything more.
That's all we really need to hear to know, and it makes me whimper in my soul.

Spain just keeps petting his hair, hoping the movement isn't causing anymore distress because Spain likes to think it comforts Romano just as much as it comforts him.
I am a sucker for this. I am a sucker for this always, damnit.

"You know Boss'll always love you, right?" He knows it's out of the blue, but it needs to be said. Because they may not have that "always", but that doesn't make the sentiment any less true and Spain would rather make random, overly sappy comments than let this thing they have slip into nothingness.
Romano rolls his eyes, though he mutters, "Unfortunately, yes," before raising the bowl to his lips once more.

Oh god. Oh god, this. It's sappy!Boss and blowing-off-Boss's-sappiness!Roma. But it's also--holy shit. What if it is not just their usual teasing. What if it is also Romano says "Unfortunately yes, I know you will always love me and I'm going to die and you are still going to be Spain and you are still going to love me and it sucks and life isn't fair but I've stopped fighting you about it and you can break your heart over me if you want to" and. And. Yooooouuuuuu

And then the scene with the wrinkles and the laughing ahhhhhhh damnit it's so cute and sweet.

France takes his leave after a late lunch, giving both Spain and Romano's cheeks kisses that linger longer than they need to. He ruffles Romano's greying hair like he always has, earning him a slap on the hand, before finally bidding them both adieu.
I love France who is fond of Spain and Romano, how do you exploit all the things I love. But I will not complain, I will just enjoy.

And then. Just. Everything about the ending. Everything. It ends softly and quietly and just kind of slipping away towards the conclusion and as I already said, that perfect ending line. Just.

THANK YOU FOR CATERING TO SUPERMAN'S WHIMS YOU AMAZING PERSON YOU <3 <3 <3
